Marwell Colloquium 2004
The aim of the Colloquium was to achieve a better understanding of the relationship, if any, between teaching and research in higher education, and to identify the policies that will enable that relationship to be enhanced particularly for the benefit of student learning but also for academic staff and the intellectual life of the university. The seminar was jointly sponsored by Southampton Institute (now Southampton Solent University), the University of Southampton, Higher Education Academy and Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Chilworth Seminar 2000
The idea for a seminar grew out of a discussion initiated in 1999 among a group of senior academic staff who had long been interested in the relationship between research and teaching in higher education. The main purpose of the seminar was to consider how, why and in what circumstances teaching and research, both subject-based and pedagogical, should be linked in the context of the move towards a mass system of higher education. The seminar was jointly organised by Southampton Institute (now Southampton Solent University) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
